Dates & Optional Activities
This is a fun laid back weekend get-a-way. The adorable mountain town of Guerneville, CA is an hour and a half drive from San Francisco.  The grounds at Camp Outback have a unique and long interesting history. It used to be "J’s Amusement Park", and was a small family run operation originally opened in the 1960s and closed in 2003. The park was founded by Jay Skaggs, and later run by his son, Michael. The Skaggs family cleaned it up and turned it into a beautiful campground. They still do special events there annually including, "Dr. Evil's House of Horrors." The rest of the time, Camp Outback is a quiet beautiful slice of natural heaven.

Relax to the soothing sounds of a rippling creek right through camp.

It's so incredibly beautiful there, you may just want to chill out and do crafty fun things and hang out by the water at camp. There are so many interesting people in this group.  We have many talented musicians, artists, writers, comedians, chefs, engineers, MacGyver's, doctors, professionals we have a great mix of funny wonderful folks. A few also restore and collect vintage travel trailers, VW camper bus's and even art cars.  We own a custom made Retro Cocktail Style Bar that seats 10 comfortably that we will have at camp for everyone to enjoy.  Make sure to bring extra camping chairs for around the fire for yourselves and dining.  This is a great place to meet new fun good people.

This time of year is peak season on the Russian River and the weather should be pretty warm, so the river will be refreshing to play in. Here is a link about the area and the river. There are several places in town where you can rent inner tubes, canoes and rafts for the river.  There are many of these kinds of vendors right out on the shoreline along the river. Some save money buying there own tubes etc. ahead of time.  Big 5 sporting goods has some good deals on float-able fun things you can bring.

Silly water sporty shenanigans will ensue on the Russian River!

The Russian River Romp will start Saturday at the main beach area at the end of Odd Fellows Park Rd. and end up at Johnson's Beach, a total of 3 or 4 miles of floating down the river.  Folks are bringing electric air pumps and a compressor so we can all inflate our inner tubes and rafts etc. at camp!

We have a local guy who will shuttle 3 at a time for $5.00 a trip (He has room for inflated stuff in the back of his truck) if you don't want to deal with getting your car from the top of the river back to camp.  It's a close 6 minute walk back to Camp Outback.

Korbel Vineyard Champagne Cellars & Gardens

Korbel Vineyard Champagne Cellars and amazing gardens are 5 minutes away from camp, so some folks would like to check it out.  Downtown Guerneville is full of adorable shops and coffeehouses and is in walking distance. There is also another family owned one of a kind historical Pee Wee Golf Arcade that's right across the street from camp!

Bring your electric & acoustic musical instruments because we will have our own stage area with a sound system for open musical jams.

On Saturday night, Prepare yourself, for Thee Hobo Gobbelins! From the labyrinthine tunnels of the World Below comes a horrific steampunk hoedown that goes straight for the jug… ular!  A terrifyingly fun band, especially for a night on the former grounds of a creepy old amusement park in the woods.

Thee Hobo Gobbelins, Oakland, CA

Camp Outback will have a portable outdoor Hot Tub for us to use anytime of day or night for our weekend!  It's in a beautiful spot in camp under the redwoods!

If you would like to contribute something special to the fun, we welcome anything you want to bring.  Please check with the Glamp-O-Rama Organizer in advance.  We have some optional structured activities for the group as follows:

Camp spaces
All camp spaces are on a first come first claim basis. Some of them have picnic tables. Camp Outback is a tent only campground, but they are making an exception for our group because we are renting the entire place for the weekend.  Only a small number of campsites are able to be driven into. There are no RV hook-ups at Camp Outback. If you have an RV or trailer larger than 13 ft. there are some nice spaces to park along the edge of the paved lot at camp. Please let the Glamp-O-Rama Organizer know if you are bringing an RV, trailer, or van to camp in. These spaces are limited. Unloading and parking are very close by.

Here is a layout for our glamping weekend to give you the lay of the land:

This is a rough old sketch of the grounds - the squares are supposed to be campsites, but there are more there than in this picture.

Food & Critters
There is a big funky built in park charcoal BBQ grill that we can fire up and use and share it for group meals. Some of the camp spaces have their own charcoal stand alone grills. There is access to clean mountain potable water at designated areas in the campground. There will be a couple banquet tables in the center camp area for group buffet style potluck meals.

Our potluck style is: Whatever you are cooking up, just make a little bit extra to share and bring it out to the banquet tables.  If we all do this, it's a yummy fun time for everyone.  We will have fancy food screen covers available on the banquet tables in the main kitchen area to keep stuff covered.

We are out in the mountains with critters big and small.  Please make sure you have your food locked down tightly in strong sealed boxes and protected. Keep all food out of your tents to avoid critter invasions. We are walking distance to downtown Guerneville for nice grocery stores and convenience stores for ice runs etc.

Camp Outback is well shaded under the redwoods, it holds in noise and stays 10 degrees cooler inside camp!
